Brief Profile
Company Havildar Major Piru Singh Shekhawat was born in Rampura village, Rajasthan, and enlisted in
the British Indian Army in 1936. After India's independence, he served with the 6th Battalion of the
Rajputana Rifles,rising to the rank of Company Havildar Major through dedicated service.
During the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947-48, on July 18, 1948, CHM Piru Singh displayed extraordinary
courage in the Battle of Tithwal. Leading his company to capture strategically important enemy positions, he continued
the assault alone after all members of his section became casualties. Despite being wounded multiple times, he single-handedly cleared
several enemy bunkers. In his final moments, though critically injured by a grenade, he ensured the destruction of the last enemy bunker
before making the supreme sacrifice.
For his exceptional bravery and selfless devotion to duty, CHM Piru Singh was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra,
India's highest wartime gallantry award. His legacy continues to inspire generations of Indian soldiers, exemplifying the highest traditions of valor in the
Indian Armed Forces
